How big should your refugium be?
My experience has been that a refugium that is equal to 10-20% of the display volume is adequate for substantial nutrient reduction. The refugium should have STRONG lighting, good flow, and should contain a macro like Cheato which is fast growing. The faster it grows, the more nutrients it will remove from the system.

Yes , a fuge can outcompete a DT. But if you love it , just Balance the system to it. IMO , if you have too much chato, you can’t see the bugs.

You can not go wrong with a bigger sump. However if it was a sump smaller then recommend size, you would have a problem with your sump overfilling in the event of a power failure.
