Swim Patrol has three levels: Rookie, Ranger, and Star. These programs continue to develop participants’ swim strokes and provide the skill foundation that prepares them for success in the Society’s Bronze Medal awards.
Do you get standard first aid from Bronze Cross?
NATIONAL LIFEGUARD Prerequisites: Bronze Cross, current Alberta workplace approved Standard First Aid, and a minimum of 16 years of age. The National Lifeguard certification prepares lifeguards to fulfill this role as professional facilitators of safe, enjoyable aquatic activities in a pool setting.
How do you train for the Bronze Cross?
The only pre-requisite for Bronze Cross is to be a Bronze Medallion holder. Swim! Bronze courses are physically demanding and if you haven’t been swimming for a year or two you will be challenged by the distance and fitness swims that are in both the Medallion and Cross courses.

What do you have to do to pass Bronze Medallion?
Be at least 15 years of age on the final assessment date; Complete an unaided swim of 400 m in 9 minutes or less (goggles and masks permitted) in a swimming pool of not less than 25 m, or over a measured open water course which will be observed prior to you undertaking any water training or assessment activities.
